Before you say, you are the next Kathryn Kuhlman…
Something strange is happening to some young women preachers. They believe they are the next Kathryn Kuhlman. This cannot be. There will be no next Kathryn Kuhlman.
For that matter, there will be no next Billy Graham or Oral Roberts. None of them were a next anybody. They were all originals called by God for a specific mission. God makes originals not copies.
The Bible says this about King Josiah: 2 Kings 23:25 “Now before him there was no king like him, who turned to the Lord with all his heart, with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the Law of Moses; nor after him did any arise like him.”
If you insist on comparing yourself
But for you who insist on comparing yourself to Miss Kuhlman, here are eight things you should know before you ever say it again.
1. If she ever heard you say: “You must sow into your deliverance or healing…” you would get a stinging rebuke.
In fact, she would say you are blaspheming the Cross of Christ.
Isaiah 53:4-5, “Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.”
Kathryn never connected money to miracles. She adamantly preached that it was free because Jesus paid it all.
2. She was horrified when people tried to bow to her.
She never accepted adoration of any kind. If you let people bow to you, you are nothing like her.
What happened when Peter and Barnabas learned that the crowd was going to bow down and adore them?
Acts 14:14-15, “But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard this, they tore their clothes and ran in among the multitude, crying out and saying, “Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men with the same nature as you, and preach to you that you should turn from these useless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all things that are in them…”
3. She did not believe Christians could be inhabited by demons.
Or that all sickness was caused by demons. If she saw you trying to cast something out of a believer, she would cast you out of the building.
Her key verses:
-1 Corinthians 6:19, “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit Who is in you, Whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
– Colossians 1:13, “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the Kingdom of the Son of His love.”
She believed that when a person becomes a Christian, their body becomes a temple of the Holy Spirit. Light and darkness cannot coexist; therefore, an unholy demonic spirit cannot occupy the same spiritual space as the Holy Spirit.
Christ has purchased the believer, Satan and his demons have no legal claim or ownership over a Christian’s body or soul. They are sealed and protected by God.
While Christians cannot be possessed (inhabited or owned), they can still be oppressed. Demons can attack from the outside. Since it is from the outside, why would you ever cast something out of a true Christian?
4: Kathryn Kuhlman never claimed she got her mantle from anyone but Jesus.
She often said the ministry was given to her because someone else turned it down. But she never claimed it was imparted by anyone else but Jesus.
All mantles for supernatural ministry come directly from Christ. Ephesians 4:8, “Therefore He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men.”
5. She would not dare call herself an Apostle.
Nor would she allow anyone else to call her an Apostle. She eschewed titles. The most she would ever say is that she had no special power except to obey the Holy Spirit.
6.When people fell under the power in her meetings they never had violent seizures.
The only thing they felt was just the overwhelming peace of God. She always stopped emotionalism in her meetings.
7: Miss Kuhlman was recognized by the medical community.
Her first book, “I Believe In Miracles” was published by Prentiss Hall. Prentiss Hall was a publisher of educational books. It means they dealt in facts. They would never risk fraudulent claims.
Two healings were particularly convincing to the publisher:
George Orr: A man who experienced the full restoration of his sight and Carey Reams: A disabled man who threw away his crutches after being healed.
Not only that, but there were also countless times when nurses, medical doctors and surgeons filled the front rows of her meetings. They witnessed thousands of healings and salvations.
8. She appeared in the leading talk shows of her day.
Tens of millions saw her on the Johnny Carson show. Film of a man getting out of a wheelchair was featured when she was a guest on the Dick Cavett show.
And finally, I must refer to a historic exchange between Senator Lloyd Bentsen and vice-presidential nominee Dan Quayle. It was the vice-presidential debate in 1988. Quayle compared himself to John F. Kennedy.
Democratic nominee Lloyd Bentsen delivered this famous response: “Senator, I served with Jack Kennedy. I knew Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you’re no Jack Kennedy.”
Let me say in closing. If you have compared yourself to her while violating what she stood for – beware. There are many of us who knew Kathryn Kuhlman. She was a friend of ours. And you are no Kathryn Kuhlman.

Yes, I remember Kathryn Kuhlman very well, and you are right…she was a unique and a one of a kind woman greatly used of God. When I was in high school, I took the time to usher, and be an alter worker in her Miracle Crusades in Oakland. I remember seeing all the interactions up close and personal and was so aware that God was working through her such such a mighty and holy way. Mario, do you remember thus? In the opening, she would glide out on the stage and say, “Have you been waiting for me?” Oh, Yes, we were. What a power packed, sweet lady of God!

I hardly know anything about her and only saw her on tv a few times and have seen a few videos. I did see her once talking about putting the rose into the drawer and being sold out to Jesus. I never knew you could have a fellowship with the Holy Spirit like she did. Thank you for sharing. I have been taught things that this letter has helped me to understand and stand on the WORD. Wow!!! What a deep truth this is! We, as believers in Jesus the Christ, MUST be so vigilant to speak only what the Holy Spirit says/has had written in the Holy Bible and not go by the traditions of men. We must study the Word and constantly speak to our Lord and seek His presence.
From my childhood I knew “about” the Lord but didn’t intimately know Him as my Lord and Savior till some years ago. Am now so in love with Him that I feel like crying a lot (like right now) because of all He’s brought me through in my 86 years on this earth.
Unfortunately, most of the present generation does not know who Katherine Kuhlman was.
I had the pleasure of being in one of sister Kuhlmans service and she talked of HOLY SPIRIT as if they would sit and talk, as being just a few years of knowing The LORD, this so impressed me of her love…

Praise God. I believe what you are saying. You always speak the truth. I do have a question for clarification as I agree with you that Christians cannot be demon possessed. However, when people get cancer or lupus or these types of diseases how do they invade a Christian’s body? This body is the temple of the Holy Spirit how do these things enter?

As I read this article, “The Rich Man and Lazarus” came to my mind. NKJ Luke 16:26 : “And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.” You are correct, no more Kathryn, Billy, etc. Just our Lord Jesus Christ. I fully agree with this topic as I have and had witnessed many women trying to mimic the power of the Holy Spirit flowing from this woman of God. When God selects, He selects that individual for a certain assignment.

This is such a needed post because we are all originals and no one gets someone else’s mantel as you well stated.Miss Kuhlman was one of a kind.At best we can try to die to self to the degree she did that the holy spirit my operate through us.

I was blessed to attend one of Kathryn’s meetings with my mother-in-law in the 1970’s. We were way back in the upper section, very far from the stage. The FULLNESS of the Holy Spirit was over the whole audience. I don’t remember a single word she said, but the flow of Holy Spirit was amazing.

Kathryn Kuhlman was indeed one of a kind. I had the privilege of hearing her speak in Oakland CA in the 1970’s. She was humble and fierce all at the same time. What an amazing woman of God.
A much misunderstood and often maligned woman of God. I wish those who do claim to be another Kathryn really were like her.
Can’t agree about the casting out of demons from believers though.
Those scriptures cited don’t exclude the possibility of believers being oppressed by demons in them. I prefer Derek Prince’s take on it.
Bingo, excellent, excellent excellent. Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe she did also walk away from the love of her life under the Lord’s directions to be holy committed to Jesus and his calling (like Paul) and never to marry. I wonder how many would follow in those footsteps?

I think this was very much needed. I never knew her; don’t think I’ve ever commented on her, but her flourishing manner left me a little confused, so i was grateful to read of her standards.
Why isn’t enough to be part of the rushing waters of God, or even to get to move in the anointing of God? I’m not sure there is anything wrong with being apostolic except not having the fear of God all over you, a teacher that is foundational…big responsibility! The mantle thing kinda bothers me too. I’m not going to tear off what I was given; I feel like I have done too little with what I have been given to be in charge of giving and taking away of His Spirit.

If there is no new Kathryn Kuhlman, then why are we comparing her statistics and beliefs with another ministers? The other minister will operate in the way the Holy Spirit leads them.

I guess I’m out of the loop, I was not aware women preachers are comparing themselves to Katherine Kuhlman…… geez those would be big shoes to fill! I didn’t know who Katherine was, until I attended ministry school (I was lulled to sleep by the doctrine of cessationist), we were studying revival history, and I discovered Katherine was a Woman deeply in-love with Jesus. There is so much we can learn from those who have gone before us……..HUMILITY!!
